Tamiya Will Soon Release a Monster Pajero Rally

When I first discovered Tamiya was re-releasing the Pajero Rally I was beyond elated. That was one of the cars I wanted but went out of production before I could get it. As an adult they became quite elusive and that means pricey. Of course you know I am cheap, so I didn't get one. My excitement turned into doubt when I remembered the original used Tamiya's 7.2 hump pack battery. That battery had five cells side by side and the sixth on top forming the "hump". A modern stick pack battery won't fit in that chassis without serious modifications.

Tamiya Renault 5 Turbo Rally - M05Ra

As a child I never understood the passion the "old guys" had for old race cars. Their technology and performance had been outdated for decades and the styling was dreadful. Cars back then weren't rolling billboards so there was room for graphics and artistic expression. Now I'm an "old guy" and I love old race cars. These old race cars represented the highest evolution of cars from that period. Sure modern cars can do more with less but they don't make you feel like a kid remembering those old contrived racing scenarios you used to create in your head. You know what I'm talking about, you do the same thing when you're playing Gran Turismo. No? Only me? Well fine. I have recreated "The Most Dangerous Race" 700,000 times with my Hot Wheels cars, Legos, The Game of Life, and anything else with about six cars.

More Wagon Love

There seems to be a trend. that trend is the end of 1/10 scale wagon bodies. Apparently ABC Hobby took this body off their site so maybe they're stopping production? I don't know for sure but if you want one you should get one while they are still around. I've liked the Legacy Wagon for a while now. I had a wicked hybrid one that I built for Gran Turismo's 1,2,3 (I'm still having trouble hybridding on GT4). I also had an experience driving one at triple digit speeds in the rain. However I still can't see myself owning one, well maybe a real one because this RC version looks killer!
Includes:- Masking Decals and decals
Body Data:- Length:- 450mm
Width:- 195mm
Wheelbase:- 260mm

Ford RS200 In Lexan 1/10 Scale Beauty

The Ford RS200. I knew nothing about this car. Back in those days we did not get World Rally broadcasts and there was no internet video. Then Kyosho dropped this animal . I fell in lust and wanted the body for my Ultima but I never found it in the Tower Hobbies catalog. Now this new company called Controlfreax (I'm sick of the x's too) has a really nice one at a great price, did I mention it was also available in carbon? I have been itching to build a tarmac rally car with a bank of lights across the front, actually I want to do that in real life too. I'll do the math on which one is cheaper, the RC or making lights for my 240sx. I have also included a video of awesomeness. As a child my mother bought me the raddest Darda set in the store. Yup, the one with the upside down jump. This thing is like that one times infinity. Check it out.

Traxxas Now Has Bodies For Its 4wd Mini!

Many of you have noticed that Traxxas' new mini is as wide as Jlo. Yes its a mini but it's nearly as wide as a standard touring car. That means no normal mini bodies will fit. What are you going to do? Add one heck of a wide body? Nope, Traxxas has you covered (see what I did there?). The mustang looks a little goofy but the Focus looks sweet. If you look in the window of the Focus you will see a big honkin motor mount. That's for the 550 Titan that is supposed to come with the brushed version. I guess they're going to jam an XL-5 in there. I have been testing the XL-2.5 with a Mabuchi silvercan in my M03. Find out how it's working out tomorrow. For now check out these pics:

Oh yes, because I love you people, I want you to have this; Watch F1 Live. Its a link to a place that streams all sessions of the Formula 1 weekend. Check here for the time and date of the next race (Hint: this weekend is a race weekend).

Tamiya TL01 Ford Focus Rally Conversion

INTRO: This is chilout3070's Ford Escort Rally. It started life as TL01 Castrol Supra. He originally built it to the TL01 XB (Extreme Build) spec's here. After a few teething problems the car was shelved. It sat for a while until he dropped it off at the RC Street Source garage to be converted to a rally car. We knew the car would be loaded as the owner is not shy about buying hopu-ps. The car was still very impressive as we had never seen a TL01 That someone put so much love into outside of the internet. The car showed up wearing the rare and very hard to find TL01 Lightweight Chassis Set. If that wasn't rare enough he also installed the Tamiya Long Suspension Arm Conversion, When you buy the conversion it also comes with a swaybar set for the front and the rear. The upgrades didn't end there, the car was also fitted with Tamiya's CVA shocks and alloy wheel hexes. GPM also provided an aluminum driveshaft, universals, and foam front bumper. The last upgrade we found on the car was a full set of bearings.

BUILD: Since our job was to make it rally worthy, we went to work raising the suspension. Once we got that dialed the car needed some off road traction. Tamiya's Rally Block tires fit the bill perfectly. To add a little bling bling the owner wanted to use chrome HPI Stock Car wheels, so we fit the rally treads to them and bolted them on. Of course we had to remove the Tamiya TL01 Speed tuned gearset the owner installed and drop the stock gearing back in to get those big tire spinning and get some torque to the ground to get up steep inclines. Power is also need to spin tires and the Traxxas 20T Stinger motor we installed provided plenty. The no-name Chinese esc the owner was using seemed up to the task of powering this beast, the one we put in the viper is still doing well. The final step was to change the body posts to fit the escort body and detail it. There is a point of contention with those. The owner like long body posts. We like to cut them down. His argument is he may want to change bodies down the road. We say, body posts are $6. The customer is always right so they're long.

PERFORMANCE: The car rips! Take it into the dirt and it throws rooster tails everywhere. I could slide it around a corner and flick the tail around on command. It was very stable with only a hint of push on the pavement. All in all I would consider this car a success. So much so I have most of the same parts to build my own rally TL01. If I were to build it again I would have used shorter spring with spacers so it could be easily lowered for tarmac, and cut down the body posts. I am trying to coordinate a bash session with the owner to get some action shots.

PURETEN EP FAZER Rally 2007 Subaru WR Concept Mode

Kyosho always had epic names.

RC rally cars are seeing a mini resurgence. People are finding all kinds of uses for their old touring cars. I blame this green thing. Everybody is trying to recycle stuff. The best thing about this green movement is they are cleaning up some decent lots to rally in. Watch this video.

Didn't that thing look like fun? Now go build one. I made 2 one from a TL01 and another from a TB01. If you can't build one buy this one, you saw the video. Now read the specs.
