4WD Tamiya Hornet

The Tamiya Hornet is one of the founding fathers of RC as we know it. That car has brought an easy to assemble, durable, and fun car to millions of people for over 20 years. People have recently been digging out their old buggies and enjoying them once again. Unfortunately the engineering of modern RC cars has advanced about 100 years compared to the Hornet, making it a little boring. Some enterprising people in Japan have taken it upon themselves to re-engineer the Hornet to bring it up to 21st century standards. How you ask? By ripping out the Hornet stuff and adding some touring car 4WD components!

There are three examples. The first is using some "I don't know" components. It looks cool and I'll think about what it's using. Maybe Tamiya DF-03 stuff? The second is obviously using Tamiya TA-04 drivetrain components. I don't really like it much. The final one I like a lot. This one uses TA-01/02/DF-01/Manta Ray/TopForce 4WD stuff. If I were to copy one of these it would be this one. I used to dream of building a 4WD Hornet. Years ago I discovered the Tamiya RC Dash-1 Emperor body. The significance of this body is that it fits both the Hornet and the Thundershot. That means there is a good chance of getting the Hornet body on a Thundershot. Voila! A 4WD Hornet. These conversions are way cooler though. There wasn't much info but look at the pics and use your mind.

I would love to see a 4WD conversion done keeping the original "crappy" suspension setup. Live rear axle and the single triangle front.

Still a great looking little car though..
